“My Witness” A poem by Dr. Andrew Egopija
I know how much you love me
How much you want to be my voice
How much you want to display my renown
How eager to spread my fame
Not a chance lost to defend my name
You stand up to those who scoff at me
You show them my beauty and witt
You apply the best logic and science
You win the philosophical argument
Not a chance lost to showcase my wisdom
I dare not look weird
I dare not appear weak and poor
I dare not be overlooked
I dare not be unfairly criticised
Not a chance to suffer shame
I appreciate all you do for me
The length you go to be my representative
The sacrifices you make to keep the cause
The benefits you freely give up ‘cos of me
Not a chance would l forget. No, I won’t
But what if l told you I don’t mind their stones
Their questions and doubts don’t hurt me
I want to be with them, l crave their company
They won’t get to know me with their heads
Face to face with my glory, they stand no chance
I won’t have to explain myself
I won’t have to act any less awkwardly
My teachings and miracles will remain edgy
Yet they will fall and worship at my feet
To this end, my child, you are called as a witness
